New Metronomy single

August 16, 2009

Joseph Mount and pals a.k.a. METRONOMY, have released a new EP, with a few new tracks and remixes of those tracks…it’s not as classic as their old material, but it’s still not bad. The title track of the EP (called Not Made For Love) is a little like a cross between 80′s Bowie and The Cure, but the thing I noticed that at first ruined it for me was the autotune. I really don’t like autotune, but after a few re-listens of this track, I think it works here. It’s just that lots of pop artists and rappers use autotune these days and I don’t see much point in it – it makes anybody sound like they can sing…like a robot. Here it’s used for effect, and fair game to them. I thought I’d also put up a classic B-side by them, which I saw them play live once, and it was great (they should stick to using a melodica), as well as a cover of The Cure I thought was pretty awesome. I also noticed they have a new band line-up, with one of them leaving…maybe that’s why they sound a little different…
